“What a wonderful performance and celebration you and the whole Aspen School Academy student body and team provided us older veterans. I too was teary eyed and moved by the whole experience. Thank you for teaching our grandchildren and children about civics and what being an American means.” - Henry A., Grandparent of Pre-K student

“We just wanted to express our gratitude for supporting and executing such a fantastic Civics Week. We feel this is hugely important and our kids have learned so much from it. Seeing the school decorated in flags was uplifting at this time when the country feels so divided, and the performances and recognition of our veterans was so special. This gives us hope for the future!” -John and Maggie C., parents of 2nd and 1st graders

“It was a pleasure to attend the Veterans Day program. I found it gratifying and inspiring to see Aspen Academy focusing on the importance of civics and our founding beliefs instead of the propaganda and virtue signaling appearing in too many schools these days. This should instill an appreciation for the country in the upcoming generation which is greatly needed.  Thank you for all you are doing.” - Alan H., grandparent of 5th grader

We were able to share today’s presentation with the Veterans in our family...and it had an immensely powerful impact on them. They appreciated the effort to put it on and that it was recorded so they could be included. Kristina Scala's words at the beginning of the program about leaning into Civics education (when many other schools are dropping it) were applauded. Here are a few quotes:

  • “That was amazing, schools don’t do that anymore. It made me cry. What an awesome school. I love it.” – Their grandfather, an Army Vietnam veteran
  • “That is SO awesome! I shed some tears. That needs to happen in every school.” – Their Aunt, Coast Guard veteran
  • “That’s so cool! Such a great tribute. I’m glad they still teach that and let the kids be involved. Thank you for sharing the link! I really enjoyed it. ” – Their cousin – Army National Guard Reservist
  • “Wow that was a wonderful veterans day program. Very impressive. Thank you for including me in their celebration.” – Their grandma, not a Veteran but she watches all school performances

It was also noted that 1st grade had the hugely challenging task of reciting all 50 states and did great. I’m not sure I could do it and know it will serve them well later in life.

Thank you to the administration, your team, the GCO and all the students for putting so much time and energy into teaching the kids about the history of our nation over the past week and honoring the civic and military personnel of today and the past. This will surely be a highlight of the school year. I attended in person and was so proud of everyone. Next year, I need to remember to bring tissues!

- Janell Farr, parent of 1st grade students
