Spanish

"The world is, in fact, flat. In the future, our children will be competing against the best and brightest from every other country."-Kristina Scala, Head of School

Spanish instruction at Aspen Academy fosters a love of learning as students acquire a second language. Using the TPRS (Total Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) method, students acquire a broad conversational base of the language. Students act out stories to demonstrate understanding while expressing themselves physically.

Conversational Spanish is introduced and reinforced.

COMING FALL 2016!! MULTICULTURAL STUDIO LABS

World Language Instruction Lab

Our existing foreign language room will be enhanced to allow for greater differentiation in instruction and learning. Here, through dynamic instruction, students learn real life communication in the target language.

World Language Technology Lab

Through the use of cutting edge technology, students will develop aural, oral, reading and writing skills. Right now 54% of all Europeans speak more than one language, while only 17% of all Americans do. According to one estimate, half the world's people might speak English by 2050. However, that still leaves billions who will not, and will conduct business in another language. Studies show that knowledge of a foreign language brings economic benefits. A 2% annual "salary premium" for speaking another language can result in a 6-digit return upon retirement.

Ethnomusicology Lab

Through the power of instruments and music from all around the world, students will learn foreign language through music. Neurologists have discovered that music and language are inexorable tied together in the brain - music literally helps people learn language.

CULTURAL PROFICIENCY AND ADVOCACY LAB

Here, students discover, research and explore cultures from around the world, uncovering the richness of differences in the world's people. Students will be encouraged from this space of deeper knowing to learn to be leaders and advocates for humanity in our country and around the globe.
