This course combines the concepts and techniques of design, painting, and drawing. The students will be exposed to a theme based curriculum geared towards ideation and concept building within their art. Brainstorming, concept mapping, and various other techniques will be used to develop project ideas. The elements and principles of design as well as foundational art skills will be explored during each theme and project. Critiquing and reflection of art examples, both student and professional work, will be used to help develop the techniques and ideas learned throughout the semester. Integration and collaboration with core disciplines will be encouraged throughout the course.
This course is designed to give students a wide variety of art making experiences. Both traditional and non-traditional approaches are taught by using a variety of media that may include: glass painting, printmaking, clay, tile mosaic, collage, and ordinary objects that can be transformed into creative works of art.
