Teacher’s Mission Brief: Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have autonomy over what I teach in my classroom?
At Aspen Academy, we don't hire generalists; we hire master practitioners. We believe in “vertical integrity,” meaning we provide a world-class curricular framework to ensure a seamless journey from early learning through graduation.
However, your classroom is not a script—it is a laboratory. You have the professional agency to:
- Master the Pace: Adjust the rhythm of instruction to meet your students exactly where they are.
- Enrich the Experience: Infuse the curriculum with your own expertise, research, and high-level resources.
- Foster Deep Thinking: We don’t do "sit and get" instruction. We empower you to transform your room into a Thinking Classroom, where students are collaborating and tackling complex problems that spark genuine intellectual struggle.
We provide the "What," but you are the architect of the "How." Rather than “sage on the stage”, we give and empower you with the tools and the professional trust to be a facilitator of an education of consequence.
How does Aspen Academy support my growth?
At Aspen Academy, we believe that when you grow, our students thrive. We provide resources and community to keep your practice fresh and your career moving forward.
- Resources for Your Classroom: When you identify a tool that will elevate your teaching, we have a 100% track record of approving those faculty requests.
- National Perspectives: You have the opportunity to join colleagues at national conferences like NCTE, NCTM, NCSS, and ISTE to bring the best-in-class programs back to your classroom. External Professional Development: Because we value your unique interests, you will receive a stipend to pursue external professional development opportunities that you choose for your own growth. Mentorship & Coaching: New faculty participate in two coaching cycles per year—a "give-get" framework where you receive consistent mentorship to sharpen your craft. Cross-Divisional Collaboration: Through our Communities of Practice, you will collaborate with peers across the school on topics like AI & Differentiation and Hands Down Conversations. Leadership Pathways: If you are looking to advance, our EvolvED Teacher-Leadership Program offers 150+ hours of annual standards-based training to help you grow your leadership experience.
What is the school’s stance on AI and emerging technology in the classroom?
Aspen is a national leader in AI leadership. We were among the first U.S. schools to integrate AI ethics and tools like ChatGPT and Gemini into daily learning. For you, this means using AI primarily to reduce "laundry" (administrative tasks), freeing you to focus 100% on personalizing learning for your students.
What does the partnership with parents actually look like for teachers?
It is not a "drop-off daycare" culture.
We have an “all in” culture where 99% of our parents show up for and look forward to conferences - that is a big difference from public and charter schools. It doesn’t stop there: parent volunteers support our community (you'll see them on campus and sometimes in your classroom). Parents are invested in our students, too—every 8th grade student has a mentor from the community with expertise as a business leader. They meet with our 8th graders 10+ times during the year, coaching them on their capstone project.
If you want to be left alone in a silo, this isn't the place. But if you want to raise up the next generation of leaders with a tribe of parents who have your back, this is home.
Are the benefits as robust as the academic standards?
Yes. To support our educators we cover 93% of health insurance premiums and 100% of dental. We also offer a 403(b) plan with employer matching, free telehealth, gym and yoga discounts, professional development stipend, voluntary vision insurance, tuition assistance and potential financial aid, and a community that cares about our staff. You also have access to on-demand mental health services and a dedicated well-being committee. We believe if you aren't growing and thriving, our students won't either.

A Day in the Life:
Middle School Math Guru
What is the daily schedule for a teacher at Aspen Academy? A typical day for a Math Guru at Aspen Academy focuses on high-impact instruction and professional growth. Unlike traditional schools where teachers are burdened with "administrative laundry," our schedule is built to protect your creative energy and prioritize student development.
7:45 AM | The Launch Arrive at your "home"—your classroom. You aren't greeted by fluorescent lights and stacks of busy work. You’re prepping for your first "LiFE" (Leadership, Finance, Entrepreneurship) integration. You check in with your teammates to ensure the morning’s culture is set.
8:30 AM | Deep Inquiry Instruction No "sit and get" lectures. Your 7th graders are analyzing market trends for their student-run businesses. You aren't just teaching fractions; you're teaching them how to calculate profit margins for their Bears’ Student Enterprises.
11:00 AM | The EvolvED Coaching Cycle It’s your turn for a peer coach drop-in—not to "evaluate" you with a clipboard, but to partner with you on a specific instructional goal. You spend 20 minutes afterward in a coaching debrief, refining your craft.
12:30 PM | Refuel & Community After you’ve enjoyed the fresh air with students during recess, lunch isn't a 15-minute rush in a sterile breakroom. You’re eating with colleagues who share your drive. You might discuss a new AI tool you’re using to personalize math paths for a student who is ready to accelerate.
1:00 PM | Back to the Classroom for More Deep Inquiry Instruction
2:15 PM | Architecting the Future (Prep Period) This isn't just "down time"—it’s your laboratory for innovation. You’re deep in unit planning, mapping out future lessons, or collaborating with grade-level colleagues to design a program that bridges disciplines. Whether you're refining a rubric or brainstorming a grade level showcase, this protected time ensures your instruction remains world-class.
3:45 PM | The Wrap Classrooms are cleaned, the day is edified, and you head home knowing you’ve done work of consequence. You aren't drained; you're inspired.
Working at Aspen Academy

Working at Aspen Academy
We believe education is on the verge of looking very different, and we're looking for inspired leaders who are willing to be a part of the change. Aspen Academy offers:
- A collaborative, values-driven environment: Be Kind. Do Good. Work Hard. Make the World Better. Our community thrives with people committed to these values and we're serious about making the world better: one student at a time. We've developed an inclusive and accepting community where our staff and faculty feel empowered to create learning that engages students emotionally and intellectually. Our team takes risks and embraces the growth mindset, celebrates diverse backgrounds and perspectives and is committed to social responsibility.
- Focus on transforming what education looks like: In addition to our focus on character development and leadership, we created a first-of-its-kind financial literacy and entrepreneurship program taught from Kindergarten through 8th grade that includes: economics, personal financial literacy, innovation, and entrepreneurship. (Imagine the difference it makes when students learn about their strengths, how to collaborate with others, and the basics of personal finance in kindergarten?)
- Entrepreneurial spirit: In 2005, Aspen Academy was founded by three women who had attended public schools, and wanted to give children an opportunity to learn and grow by focusing not only on what they know, but who they are -- kindness is our one rule.
- Competitive salaries commensurate with experience and job responsibilities
- Paid professional development
- Robust health, wellness and benefits programs
- Aspen Academy tuition assistance plus financial aid for the children of faculty and staff
- And more...
"As a new teacher at Aspen I'm still in shock this amazing school exists. The staff, families and children all took me in immediately. The amount of kindness and support we are shown is indescribable. Aspen truly cares about all scholars and their future. I am so thankful to have found my home."
-Jennifer Gravlee, Director of Middle School (previously a Director of Programs, Lower School teacher and Leadership Coach)
