While election season can bring a storm of (perhaps unwanted) political ads and a mailbox stuffed with postcards, it’s a time of great learning for students in Denver middle schools. Many public and private middle schools have student body leaders or student government, known as Student Civic Organization (SCO) at Aspen Academy. The time for elections has arrived at Aspen Academy!

Some parents know their students might have questions about what it means to take a "moment of silence" when something difficult happens globally or locally. Here are tips for talking to your student about what it means to take a moment of silence. 

History and Memory in Middle School - Reflections on September 11th

Dr. Julie Johnson visited our Middle School classes in early September to talk about her experience living in New York City during 9/11, and shared her perspective on history as the students talked about how the recounting of events can be affected by one’s own memory. Julie talked about how history and memory are intertwined, and how history helps shape memories and can make us more aware of the human experience.
