Studying Monet: Recreating An Artist's Work

Second graders are studying artist Claude Monet. They learned that he was fascinated by the way light changed his subject. He would sit and paint the same scene over and over again to capture the nuanced changes in light, shadow and color throughout the day and throughout the year. Students are investigating Monet's series of bridge painting and water lilies. They used oil pastel and salt as a way to add light, shadow and texture within their watercolor paintings. Students investigated patterns and repetition to sculpt the 3-D water lilies. Hope you enjoy viewing their creations which are on display now in the 2nd Grade Hallway and in the photos below:
