Spring 2024 Adventure Week: Experiential Leadership & Education for 5th Through 8th Grade Students

We are already a month into school! Yes, it has flown and I know we are going to have a great year!

While it is only one month into school, it is already the time to start thinking about the spring and our annual Aspen Academy Adventure Week.

For those who haven't yet participated in an Adventure Week you may be asking yourself, what is Adventure Week? Each spring we coordinate grade-level trips to locations around the country/globe that are aligned with our curriculum, is a leadership and service opportunity, and a chance to continue to build relationships with their classmates and teachers.

As last year, these trips will occur the week before Spring Break and are scheduled for the week of March 18th.

Our parent information meeting is scheduled for next Tuesday, Sept. 19th via Zoom to discuss each of the grade level trips, insurance policies, deposit & final payment dates, as well as the options for our local week if you choose not to attend one of these trips.

You only need to plan to attend the relevant meeting time for your student's grade level:

  • 5th - 4:30 - 5:00 PM
  • 6th - 5:00 - 5:30 PM
  • 7th - 5:30 - 6:00 PM
  • 8th - 6:00 - 6:30 PM

Please feel free to include your student as well. I will record the meetings and send them out if you are unable to attend.  The leads for each trip will also have a second meeting in October to answer more specific questions.

We hope to see you there and look forward to answering all of your questions.

About the Author

Justin Wimbish, Interim Director of Middle School

Over the course of his career, Justin has held a number of positions in the medical, technology, and education fields. While working in the IT Department at St. Mary's Academy, he was deployed to Afghanistan as an Army medic in 2009. On his return to the States, he took over as the IT Director for St. Mary’s, a position he held for 6 years. After a total tenure of 11 years with St. Mary’s Academy, Justin took time off to travel with his wife -- most notably returning to Jakarta Intercultural School in Indonesia where he'd graduated 20 years prior.

Deciding during that time off to dedicate the next chapter of his career more directly to Education, Justin enrolled in a Master's degree program in Human Learning. While in graduate school, Justin worked as a Cognitive Coach and Academic Tutor with The Nectar Group, applying the concept of neuroplasticity to support students with cognitive impairments in asserting control of their brains. This experience supports and informs his work with our neurodiverse Middle School students.

Justin is excited for his another year at Aspen Academy, maintaining his enthusiasm for developing caring, creative, and capable learners, ready to make their world a better place.
