How Curiosity Changes Things…Calendar Changes for 2019-2020 School Year

Theresa Letman

“The most interesting people are interested in other people, places, and things.”

This year, Aspen Academy is on a journey of curiosity, of understanding and celebrating one another, and of learning more. We’ve discovered some ways we can better celebrate our own curiosity.

We evaluated our 2019-2020 calendar and made some adjustments to better serve our families and to be consistent with our values. The changes below enable us to move major events off holidays and give our families, faculty and staff more time with their families at Thanksgiving.

CALENDAR CHANGES

  • Fall Play was scheduled for the Friday evening before Thanksgiving Break:
    • Change: Moved to 6pm on Thu 11/21 and 2pm on Fri 11/22. Grand Day is also November 22.

  • High School Admissions Exam Prep Course on October 8:

    • First day falls on Yom Kippur, the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. Debbie Cordero is working on adjusting this date for their 4-week course.

  • Shark Tank was scheduled for Good Friday (April 10, 2020).

    • Change: Moved to Thursday, April 16, 2020 at 8:30am

    • 1st Round: Week of April 7th

    • 2nd Round: Week of April 14th

  • Spring Play was scheduled for a Friday evening and would occur after sundown:

    • Change: Moved to 6pm on Thu 4/16 and 2pm on Fri 4/17.

Worldwide Holidays & Celebrations on TVs

As part of our IDI work and creating an environment of even more learning around celebrating diversity and inclusion, you’ll begin to see learning “tiles” on our televisions where we highlight a major holiday or celebration, share a short overview and appropriate greeting for those who celebrate the holiday, as well as the school’s policy for no homework/tests (when applicable). Our goal is to showcase religious and other holidays. If there’s a holiday/celebration you celebrate that you'd like our community to know about or that you’re curious about and would like us to learn more about, please let Jordyn know!
