Fitness and Wellness

Students at Aspen Academy work hard, and Physical Education and wellness class is no exception. Students learn from a young age to both work their bodies hard and treat their bodies well. They participate in a variety of age appropriate activities that work to develop their fitness, strength, athleticism and coordination. Students are assessed throughout the year and work toward goals they have set for themselves. Additionally, all students in third grade and older and are required to participate in at least one extra curricular athletic program of their choice. 

The goal of physical education classes will be to develop a lifelong desire to become and remain physically fit.  At Aspen Academy, athletics takes a featured role for three reasons:

First, and on the most basic level, sports and games keep our students moving. Students are involved in activities and classes that will work to improve strength, endurance, and flexibility.  During sports based units, students will learn the how and why of playing specific sports.  Aspen Academy’s Athletics program will demonstrate to our children that being active is not only fun, but also an absolute must.

Second, athletics give a great opportunity for our students to demonstrate the character and leadership values that are the cornerstone of our program. Our students will come into real situations where their character will be challenged and they will have to make decisions. Parents will witness their students demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, not giving up when their team has no chance of coming back, winning graciously, and valuing hard work. These lessons reinforce the values we at Aspen Academy hold in the highest regard.

And third, being involved in athletics will give students an opportunity to see each other as more than a peer editor or a math group partner. They will have identities and self esteem that other students will take notice of and respect. They will have an outlet or a challenge to help shape them into the person they will become.
